fontenelle history.

Hiroto Arakawa was supposed to be born with a twin and it's important to start here because this is something that affected Hiroto in a strange way. While his parents never seemed too upset by it, telling Hiroto when he was young, it unnerved Hiroto. There had been another baby inside there with him, his twin, but somewhere along the way this baby died and Hiroto had absorbed the other fetus. While disappointed and sad, the parents had been assured this wasn't uncommon and so they'd felt blessed they at least had Hiroto.

However, Hiroto was always left wondering why not him? Why didn't he disappear? Much of his life was left with questions and him wondering what would have happened if he'd had a twin. Would they have been a boy or a girl? His identical twin? Hiroto never talked about this, being a more quiet and stoic child. He'd felt silly for missing somebody he never knew and yet always, the feeling that there should be someone there beside him always persisted. Even now at fifteen, he often feels like when he looks over to his side, there should be someone there.

Hiroto's life otherwise was very simple. His father was a teacher and a soccer coach while his mother owned a jewelry shop. His father's driven and competitive nature passed down onto Hiroto, he usually joined a lot of sports. However he never did well with teamwork. Hiroto was a blunt kid, sometimes too blunt and it made it hard for him to make friends. It wasn't so much that he wanted to hurt feelings, but his parents had instilled a strict moral code for honesty. Hiroto just took it too seriously. Usually after school, Hiroto would go to his mother's shop and though he argued he didn't like anything there because it was all too girly, he was often caught staring at the jewels.

Since Hiroto usually didn't have kids to play with and no siblings to be seen coming any time soon, Hiroto took on playing bass guitar. He showed real talent and his teachers urged Hiroto's parents to foster that growth as much as possible. Hiroto liked the bass guitar, but he mostly kept it up for his parents' enjoyment. They seemed happy and proud of how much talent he showed and while Hiroto showed no real passion for the instrument, it was easy to practice and keep up with.

Life really wasn't bad for Hiroto until January 11th when he was ten. A bad snowstorm was going and they were coming back after one of his recitals. Visibility was difficult and despite how carefully Hiroto's father drove, they got into a car accident. Hiroto's parents died and Hiroto survived, which just made him wonder why even more: why was he always the one to survive? People were surprised when Hiroto didn't cry, not even at the funeral, but what nobody knew was that after the knowledge of what happened with his twin and then with his parents, a bit of survivor's guilt started to take hold of Hiroto even more. Withdrawn even more, afraid of being the sole survivor once again, he's scared to get close to people. What if they die and he's left to his grief by himself? School counselors tried to get him to open up about his parents' deaths, but Hiroto stayed quiet and soon they gave up on trying to get him to open up. Hiroto hates to talk about their deaths, hating the pity and the reminder that they're dead.

Hiroto's aunt, his father's sister, tried to take the reigns of caring for Hiroto. While she is his legal guardian, she soon found it difficult to continue to care for Hiroto and especially when he had such an independent streak. Still living in the home his parents owned and bought, his aunt lives the next town over and comes and checks on him every so often. Hiroto really just stays inside and goes to school. He never gets into much trouble and so in that way he's a good kid. Money-wise, his mother's store was sold and with money his aunt sends every so often from her freelance job, Hiroto does fine. Though he's considered getting a part-time job just to fill his time up/

At fifteen, Hiroto just keeps his grades up and keeps up with his bass guitar lessons. His life is boring and he's left with his thoughts too often, getting stuck on the past with nothing to help him out of it. Not that he helps himself, not talking to anybody.
